Staying Fit with KerboomKIDZ

June 23, 2016
Do you know what KerboomKIDZ is? No? Sit back and enjoy this article as I explain what KerboomKIDZ is and who founded it.

KerboomKIDZ is an energetic and challenging group exercise program that is especially designed for kids ages 4-17. It is a great way for students to engage in a high energy dance fitness class while improving their physical coordination and focus, developing various motor skills and movement patterns as well as gaining rhythm and self confidence.

Instructors that teach this fitness craze break down each of the steps, which allows each individual at ALL ages and levels the ability to be successful in learning the routines. As each individual is having fun and learning the routines, they push themselves to strive at the routines, which will eventually get faster and allow each individual to burn more calories. This is an awesome workout and positive environment for any age group.

Kershel Anthony is the guy beyond all this awesomeness! Let's get to know Kershel a little bit better. . .

Kershel, please tell us a little bit of your background.
I’m very charismatic individual with a magnetic personality. I’m a professional dance choreographer and entertainer. Raised in Holbrook, New York, I started dancing at the age of five. The love of dance came from me being surrounded by music while growing up. My dad spun records and played music from morning to night in our house. I studied Dance at Hofstra University where I perfected my style, becoming an expert in hip-hop, ballet, and modern dance, as well as honing my breakdancing skills. I’ve taught kids from the age of five to adults for over 15years. I have worked and performed with a variety of artists at events around the country. I toured with "The King Michael Tour" in New York City and Philadelphia as well as the Vans Warp Tour. I have presented at such conferences as IDEA World Fitness Conference, ECA World Fitness, Sweat USA and AHPERD National Conference with Kerboomka & Kerboomkidz. I am also a certified personal trainer and CPR certified. My most recent project is being a contestant on the new Jillian Michaels show “Sweat Inc” airing now on Spike TV.

What made you decide to start the business Kerboomka and KerboomKIDZ?

As I was getting older, I was becoming more health conscience and wanted to start taking care of my body. These dancing legs can only go for so long! As I began going to the gym I started to realize that for me it was more than just working out. It literally saved my life. Through the stressful life as an entertainer, working around the clock and being a single father. It was taking a toll on me, physically, mentally and financially. We all have a story and life is not always easy but finding some activity, sport or working out always helps. There are things that help you distress and just feel good about yourself. And that is what the gym atmosphere was doing for me. I started teaching dance fitness classes at gyms and I was simply teaching basic choreography and pushing the tempo of the music. The people loved it! I loved it! As well as it provided another source of income and what single parent didn’t want that. Foolish me I didn’t realize the full potential of what I had. It was more than just a class. I was helping people get fit, have fun, learn to dance and feel confident. I made people feel good!! This was my calling. A wonderful woman by the name Melissa Regis from Kioto Jui Jitsu in Sayville said I had something really going on here. You should turn this into a business and have others teach classes and get certified and DVD’s. I was blown away. I was so new to this I didn’t reliaze how big I can make this . To have everyone experience a program that can literally change and save your life , was a dream. In 2012 I launched the dance fitness program Kerboomka. successfully marrying dance and cardio to create a fitness system for the masses Taking the program to schools I then realize this was something necessary for every kid The rise in obesity, the raise in laziness and social media has these kids in danger. We needed something to get these kids engaged again . To be kids and play , stay active and eat healthy. That’s when I decided I had to make a kids program. Make it educational and that abide by the schools curriculum. 2014 Kerboomkidz was launched. My Kidz program is my greatest gift. This is the program that needs to be in every school around the world. Help me get these kids active again.

In some of the pictures/videos we have seen and love, you express yourself with wearing bright colors, funky socks, glasses and funky hair, why is this?
HAhahaha I love this question. 2 words. ITS ME !! I love it. I love the funkiness and bright colors. Its what I like to wear. Its my fashion. I wear wacky knee high socks and glasses w/ no lenses all the time. Even if im in a tux . My shirts are colorful and my bowties are on point. I definetly believe it makes other people feel more comfortable. They look at me and are like “ If he can rock that gear and feel comfortable, then I’m good. Especially with the kids. I don’t have to say a thing. The way I dress speaks out loud to the kids. It tells them you can be whoever you feel comfortable in being. Whether people hate it or love it. I get ridiculed and stared at. But my Swag is to strong to ever doubt its wrong. Their just haters. hahahaha OMG my fashion line is going to be crayzzzzz. That’s my next adventure, Just saying

With KerboomKIDZ what are you looking to get across to these young individuals that participate in your classes?
I want to let them know how important it is to stay active and eat healthy. And that its there responsibility in doing so. There are many things they can do in school and outside of school to stay active. I teach them how I use dance to keep me active, strong and healthy. And they can too. How do you come up with your dance routines?

Are you the choreographer or do you have a team just for designing the cardio dance routines?
I am the choreographer. I have a library of dance moves and routines stored in my head. Sometimes I write them on paper. But my best creation comes when I'm choreographing on the spot. The creativity flows better. Its also challenges me and keeps me on my toes every class. May I add it’s a great mental workout.

And lastly, if you invited us over what would we find in your refrigerator?
OOhhhh booyyyyy. Lol A lot of fruit. I love my berries. Strawberries blackberries and raspberries. Grapes and cherries. Chicken, lettuce , eggs tons of polar spring water bottles. And a treat. I mean you work very hard, you must treat yourself. lol

So get your kids to get off the couch and put down the electronics! Have your kids attend one of Kershel's KerboomKIDZ classes or events.
